It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Allen (Darling). Helen passed away on Saturday, July 13 at the age of 89. Predeceased by her beloved husband Edward (Eddie) Allen, her parents Harold and Lillian Darling (Marsaw), and her siblings Marion Renwick, Alan, Clarence, Gerald, Joseph, and Walter Darling. Survived by her children Steven (Kim) Allen and Brian (Dani) Allen, grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Tyo, Ryan Allen (Emma Wilson), Chelsea (Rohit) Gupta, Jacob Allen, and great-grandchildren Addisyn, Jackson, and Roman.
Helen was born at home in Spring Valley, Ontario on January 10, 1935 and grew up on the family dairy farm, the youngest of seven children. Helen met and married Eddie on September 12, 1959. Eddie and Helen built their home in Spring Valley, where they raised their two boys, and lived for 60 years.
Helen and Eddie loved to dance and spent many evenings dancing with their circle of friends at local dance halls well into their eighties. Helen loved to entertain and was a great cook and a wonderful hostess. She also loved gardening, camping, and walking daily to keep active. Helen worked for years at the Recorder and Times, in the production department at Electrolux, and lastly at the Brockville Community Workshop before retiring.
Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. In her later years Helen developed dementia and spent the last 4.5 years at “the cottages” in Fox Run Retirement Home. She will deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Helen’s life at the C*Road Church, 3545 Country Road 27, RR #2, Lyn, Ontario on Saturday, July 20 at 11a.m. with a reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to The Alzheimer’s Society would kindly be appreciated and acknowledged by the family. We extend a special heart felt thank you to the staff, nurses, and PSWs at Fox Run by the River Retirement Home for their loving care over the last several years, and to the compassionate nurses and staff on the Palliative Care floor at Brockville General Hospital.
