Gregory Randall Moore, 81, of Brockville, Ontario, passed away on November 23rd, 2023, in the Brockville General Hospital. He was born on July 17th, 1942, to Willard Moore and Evelyn Moore (nee McGray) in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
Greg attended the University of King’s College in Halifax but withdrew due to health concerns. He later completed his medical laboratory technologist training in Halifax, where he met his future wife, Sheila. He married Sheila Johnston on October 22nd, 1966, and they had 3 children, Melanie, Chris, and Andrew.
In 1972, he and his family moved to Brockville, Ontario, where he worked for over 25 years as the Laboratory Manager at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital. He retired in 1998. An avid artist, antique collector, and naturalist who was heavily involved in the Brockville community, he worked with the Soccer Association and the Wall Street Village Community project, amongst others. A proactive member of the religious community in Brockville, he led many church programs that filled various community needs including establishing the local proclamation program, developing and supporting community outreach and mentorship, and food cupboards.
Outside of his community involvement, one of Greg’s greatest joys was visiting his childhood hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where he could reconnect with his youth, the ocean air, and his friends and family.
Greg is survived by his wife, Sheila; his children and their spouses, Melanie and Russ, Chris and Alex, and Andrew and Kristina; his grandchildren Paige, Ian, Quinn, Zoe, and Émilie and his siblings, Jacqueline and Richard, as well as his many nieces and nephews and their children.
Family and friends are invited to the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James St. E., Brockville on Saturday December 2nd from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel with Pastor Allan McQuarrie officiating. Interment will take place at Town Point Cemetery in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in July 2024.
