Sadly, we announce the passing of Charles Hayles on Thursday, June 6, 2024 surrounded by family at his residences overlooking the beautiful St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands.
Charles Alexander Hayles was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on December 12, 1926 to Charles and Martha (nee Whamond) Hayles. In 1954 he married Marion Hazel MacInnes, and they had three sons, Richard (Diane), Steven (predeceased) and David (Patricia), and nine grandchildren, Matthew, Madeleine, Kelly, Scott, Spencer, Shannon, Caitlin, Charlize and Emily and 3 great grandchildren.
Charlie graduated in engineering from McGill University in 1952 before joining Imperial Oil, where he took on increasing responsibility in the forty years he worked there, ending his career as Vice President of Marketing. In 1986 he retired from Imperial Oil, and joined Pat Delbridge in her company providing issues and stakeholder management consulting. In this partnership the two traveled together helping large industrial clients in Canada, the USA, and countries throughout Europe and the Far East. He married Pat in 1990, and became a much-loved stepfather to Elizabeth (Sam), Clare (Jean Pierre) and Janet (Peter predeceased), their eight grandchildren Brittany, Janine, Paul, Tim, Tanya, Robin, Pierre and Chole and 3 great grandchildren.
Charlie was best known for his love of golf, playing at St George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto for more than 50 years, and for his intelligence and humour. Charlie lived a full and fulfilling life and will be missed by a wide circle of family and friends.
In keeping with Charlie’s wishes there will only be a private family interment. Arrangements are entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home & Chapel, 4 James St., E., Brockville. In memory of Charles donations to the MS Society of Canada will be greatly appreciated by his family.
