In loving memory of Judith (Judy) Susan Caswell, February 24, 1942 – October 29, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Susan Caswell, who passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Judy will be remembered as a devoted mother, nana, sister, cousin, aunt, and mother-in law, all of whom will never forget the love she brought into their lives. She is also dearly remembered as a kind and loyal friend to many who crossed her path over the years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann and her parents, Orval and Dorothy, as well as her dear cousins, Suzanne and Lee. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Refausse (Bill) and Sarah Phillips (Stephen) and her four cherished grandchildren, Abby (Taylor), Charlie, Samuel and Andrew. She is also survived by her very close cousins (like sister) Carol Cunningham (Jack) and Michael Woods, and by her nephews, Chris and Mark Edwards as well as many cherished cousins, with whom she has maintained close connection over the years.
Judy was born in Iroquois Falls to Dr. Orval Crabbe and Dorothy Jones. She grew up primarily in Cobourg and it is there that she began to forge strong ties and friendships that would last a lifetime. She would often reminisce of those early years and her summer days spent at “Camp Calumet”. Judy would go on to study nursing at Belleville General Hospital and proudly graduated in 1963. The best part of her nursing career were the friendships she made that spanned over 60 years and those classmates were some of her dearest friends. At that time of graduation, Judy settled in the Quinte area; raising her family and taking part in the community.
In 1980, Judy decided to become a realtor and made the transition from nursing to real estate. She was pleased to sell homes in the Quinte area for over 40 years and the friendships she made through her real estate connections were definitely the highlight of her career. Judy will be fondly remembered! She immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was passionate about golf and always looked forward to her weekly golf games. She was ever so proud to say she had a “hole in one” at her local golf course! She loved to cook and entertain, and was often the “life of the party”. She enjoyed a good hand of bridge and played in the Hospital Auxiliary league for over 40 years. Her bridge friends knew that bridge was often the highlight of her week. Judy also enjoyed a fine Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, and of course the odd Martini! Those who knew her, would know the best part of sharing a drink was the time spent together with her friends and family.
Most definitely Judy’s greatest joy were her four grandchildren, and she was, as they would say “the best nana ever”.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday November 8, 2024, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at the Trent Port Marina, 15 Creswell Drive, Trenton. There will be an Open House followed by a short Tribute Service at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice Quinte (Stan Klemencic Care Centre- hospicequinte.ca). The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and caring employees of both Kingston General Hospital and Hospice Quinte who treated Judy with outstanding care and compassion, and heartfelt support.
Arrangements entrusted to the Rushnell Funeral Homes – Brighton Chapel, 130 Main Street (613-475-2121).
