Kenneth “K.B” Bruce Kitchen Obituary
Kitchen, Kenneth Bruce, “K.B.”
Shelley (Kitchen), and Cam, Claire and Will McArthur (Loren Hayes) are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Dad, father-in law and grandfather, Ken Kitchen. Ken left us on June 26 at, what he would consider the young age of 94. Ken lived independently until May, when he suffered a serious fall that led to his hospitalization and subsequent passing.
Ken was predeceased by his loving wife, Gerry (1995) and his partner, Barb McDonald (2011). With Gerry and with Barb, he travelled the world. He outlived all his siblings and their spouses: Lloyd and Thelma, Jack and Louisa, Joyce and Pat, Chuck and Carol, Harold Jr. and Carol, Carol Kitchen (Dawson) and Betty and Fred Knechtel. Some of his greatest memories, and the times that he loved most, were spent at the cottages in Port Dover when the family was all together enjoying their beach, boats and the lake. He loved his extended family and was uncle to 25 nieces and nephews with whom he regularly communicated as the “patriarch”.
Ken was really funny and very witty. He had a hundred one-liners and “dad jokes” and was always able to see the light side in almost everything. He loved cars and driving and was devastated when he had to give up his license in September last year. However, he adjusted to driving with Shelley, and was thrilled to be able to give his car to his grandson, Will.
A working Ken Kitchen was, at different times in his career, Sales Manager, General Manager, Vice President and eventually President and major shareholder of Lockwood Mfg. where he made many wonderful friends and memories.
Ken was an empathetic listener and a generous person. He was willing to give his time and help to any friends or family members and was always looking to invest and support worthy causes. Part of Ken’s charm was his curiosity and his genuine interest in people. Of course, this made him a wonderful conversationalist, and a real asset to any social gathering. His hearing loss caused him some difficulty in later years, but it didn’t stop him from participating in a good conversation, especially if it was about his grandchildren, current events, or the stock market.
To those people lucky enough to know him well, Ken was considered a gentleman, a friend, and a genuinely good person. However, his greatest joys in life were Claire and Will, and along with Shelley and Cam, he was able to enthusiastically celebrate all their athletic, scholastic, and life achievements.
Ken loved Shelley and her family fiercely, and ensured that they always knew they were his one and only priority.
It may be cliche, but he did have a life well lived; he loved and was loved.
He is unforgettable.
To paraphrase Winston Churchill, Ken’s conscience was his guide. His actions will forever be a shield to his memory.
Family and friends will be received at the McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road North, Brantford for a Memorial Reception on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place. If wished, memorial donations to the Brantford General Hospital Foundation or Arnold Anderson Sport Fund gratefully appreciated.
