Obituary of Eileen Carol O’Quinn
Carol Burrows O’Quinn, age 81, entered into eternal life on June 13th, 2024 peacefully in her home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Christina (McNeil) Burrows. Carol attended Holy Cross School and St. Michael’s High School in Glace Bay. Carol continued her studies at nursing school in Halifax for which she had a great passion as she loved helping people. She went on to be a pioneer for women in Canada Post as one of the first female letter carriers in Ontario (maybe all of Canada!?). Mom had an infectious smile and laugh and her humour was like “jokes on you” in a playful funny way. She was generous with her love and friendships and would give a person the shirt off her back. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her heart was kind and she was always there for anyone who needed her, with a listening ear or just with one of her famous hugs and she loved her hugs. She was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated 20 years of sobriety. She was a volunteer at the Alano club in Oshawa, answering phones and sharing her experience, strength and hope with a newcomer or anyone who reached out. She did this and attended meetings until she was no longer able to do so because of health reasons. She loved the fellowship and getting her hugs and it was something she looked forward to. Her favourite treats were her Diet Pepsi and Caramilk bars and she loved her soaps. Her motto per se was “Kindness” and she lived by that and she showed that kindness to many people. She was a special person and will live on in our hearts.
She will be greatly missed by her children Sherrie, Diane (Laurie), Jeannie (Gerald), and Hughie (Robyn); her grandchildren Justin, Brandon (Kaitlin), Gregory, Cameron, Samantha, Bryden, Payton and Rory; her siblings Sr. Martha Eileen, Tina (Oran) Mosher, Kay (Joe) Mauti, Martha (Danny) Matheson.
Besides her parents, Carol was pre-deceased by her husband Hugh; and her daughter Patricia, her sisters Eileen, Therese, Agnes, Cheryl and her brothers Murray, her twin Bert and Gerard.
A Celebration of Life will take place on July 6th, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Church in Bowmanville at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Mom will be laid to rest with her husband Hugh at Holy Cross cemetery in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Her final road trip with us to her beloved Cape will take place next summer with her family.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Bowmanville hospital and her community caregivers, especially Bibi, who held a special place in Mom’s heart.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Diabetes society.
