In Loving Memory of Dianna Trejbal (Humenick)
Newcastle, Ontario – With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable soul who lived life on her own terms. With her daughter and granddaughter by her side, Dianna Trejbal passed away quietly on November 21st , 2023 – just shy of her 74th birthday,
Born in Bowmanville, Dianna grew up on the family farm, a place that shaped her love for animals, nature, food, music, family and honed her Ukrainian roots. A free and sometimes wild spirit from the start, Dianna danced through various homes and places, leaving an unforgettable mark on all who knew her.
A hard worker by nature, Dianna’s professional path highlighted her adaptability and skill in various fields, reflecting her spirit and experiences throughout her working life. She loved to learn and was an avid reader. Over the years, Dianna held careers in television broadcasting, the board of education, medical transcription, culinary arts as a chef, and years working Port Hope in the manufacturing sector.
Regardless of where she lived, Dianna’s kitchen was always the centre of her home. She was renowned for her culinary abilities, whose Ukrainian cooking skills rivaled even those of her seasoned senior relatives. The kitchen was not just a place to cook; it was a place where storiesand memories were shared through every meal. Her recipes will forever remain cherished heirlooms to all who shared her table.
With a heart full of mischief, Dianna’s sense of humour and love for laughter often led to crazy and embarrassing yet undeniably funny antics, reminding us to find joy in the simplest moments. She loved her family, friends, and their history. She found joy in the stories that connected generations, appreciating the lessons and heritage that shaped her identity. Her affection for family and history was a simple yet powerful force in her life.
A talented mandolin player, Dianna found joy in the music that resonated with her free spirit. Her zest for life led her to explore new places, and she carried the stories of her adventures with her wherever she went. It was a gift she shared generously.
Despite her struggles with mental health and addiction, a massive stroke in 2014 followed by breast cancer, Dianna remained fiercely resilient, never letting her challenges dim her spirit. Her outgoing nature and magnetic personality drew people in; her laughter could lift the heaviest of hearts. Her kindness and outspokenness were a testament to her authenticity—a quality that endeared her to all who knew her.
Dianna is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Ellen, and by her sister, Trudy and brother, Joe. She is survived by her sisters, Janet and Gloria, her two daughters, Monica and Michelle, and her granddaughter, Emily. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, in particular her Jenny, and her surviving extended family. She will also be affectionally remembered by the many friends she made over the years, especially her lifelong and best friend Ellen (Ken).
The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Fosterbrooke Long- Term Care Home and by Dr. Aubry Kassirer. Their dedication, kindness and patience during Dianna’s time there brought comfort to her and her loved ones. We appreciate their unwavering support and for creating a nurturing environment especially during challenging times. Their contributions have not gone unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.
In honor of Dianna, a celebration of her life will be held at the Newtonville Community Hall on December 10th , 2023, from 12pm to 3pm. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and remember the laughter, love, and indomitable spirit that defined Dianna’s journey. A Ukrainian lunch will be served at 1pm to honour her love for food and family. More details will be posted shortly on Facebook and through an online memorial.
May Dianna’s free spirit continue to soar, finally finding peace among the stars. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever echo in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
