Obituary
Sadly we have lost our Dear Allan, loving devoted husband to Audrey and poppa to Sandra (Grady) and Robert (Darlene). Allan was born in Timmins, Ontario to Joseph & Anne Shulist. He is survived by his sisters, Madeline (Ambrose Luckovitch) and Lorraine (Basil Maika) and Lillian (Andrew Maika) and predeceased by his brother Leonard. He was a brother-in-law to Linda (Bleskie) Rod, Basil Bleskie (Leah deceased). He was Uncle to many nieces & nephews, he was also a good friend to many. Allan fought with strength, dignity and courage while battling illness.
Allan loved Combermere. Throughout his life he held many work positions, from his early years at Murray Bros., to owning a gas station in Combermere. He lived in Toronto for a number of years installing overhead garage doors. After moving back to Combermere he worked at Pastway’s, eventually became the Road Superintendent for the Township of Radcliffe. His experience with garage doors led him to open his own business, called Shulist Overhead Garage Doors. He retired from his business in 2022.
He enjoyed fishing & hunting and being with his longtime friends at the Hunt camp. His family & friends were the centre of his life. Allan loved the families & friends he made over the years on Riverside Drive. Euchre and cribbage and solitaire were among his favorite card games. He enjoyed cooking & Allan made the best oatmeal cookies.
His family wants to extend a sincere THANK YOU to those who drove him to out of town appointments – Ernie Phanenhour, Bob Hanley and niece Shelley Maika, and many other family members. Thank you to Dr. Meeking, and the staff at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Allan also received care at the Ottawa General, Civic as well as Renfrew Victoria Hospitals.
Respecting Allan’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Saturday October 21st 2023 at the Heubner Funeral home from 10am to 12:00pm, a family Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30 also at Heubner Funeral Home.
Donations in Allan’s memory can be made to St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation, if you wish.
