In Loving Memory of Joan Mary Wright (née Grant)
Born: March 20 1939 – Passed Away: October 19, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, nana, great-grandma, and friend, who passed away at the age of 84 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Joan was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Wright. In her final journey, Joan leaves behind her 4 children: Jennifer Clayton (Wright) and son-in-law Brad, Sandra Wright, Eric Wright, Carole Wright and son-in-law Daryl. She will also be eternally missed by her 6 grandchildren who were a wonderful joy and intense source of pride: Grant, Julia (Danny), Ben, Siobhan, Holden, Alexandra, and her great-granddaughter, Aria. Joan also leaves behind her brother John Grant, nephew Chad, and niece Kim. Born in Kingston, Ontario to John Marshall Grant and Alice Gertrude Grant (Holden). Joan was always a gentle, yet hardworking woman who brought joy, kindness and a helping hand to the lives of all who had the privilege of sharing in her company. She moved to Toronto with her family as a teen, and became a law office clerk there. She went on to marry Bill, and eventually settled in Barrie in 1970 where she continued to manage a busy household with 4 kids and several beloved pets. She retired from work at age 72.
Joan was an intelligent, creative woman, who loved cooking, sewing, sketching, films, fashion and of course – coffee! May the warmth that radiated from her always be a source of comfort to those who grieve her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Busby Centre in Barrie as Joan was a strong advocate for those in need.
Rest in peace, dear Joan. You soldiered on and fought bravely through so much – may you forever be dancing, laughing and at peace knowing how very much you were loved.
A Memorial Service for Joan will be held at a later date.
