A dear friend said to me “Mums are very special” – truer words have never been spoken. Our sweet mother Ellen Anna Larsen passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born on January 17, 1932 in Copenhagen Denmark she grew up surrounded by three brothers in a tight-knit family and made the trek across the ocean in 1957 to start a life in Canada with Flemming and her children Steven, Peter and Susanne. The move to Canada was to have been a five year adventure that ended up spanning more than six decades. Her life here was filled with friends who became extended family including her closest friends Joyce Rees and Margie Emms. Always on the go, she was often found to be running up and down the stairs while hosting friends for coffee, delicious treats or even a cocktail or two.
She was a wonderful mother, quick to smile and lend an ear, always there to support those around her. Well-loved by many friends and family both in Barrie and back home in Copenhagen. Ellen was predeceased by her husband Flemming and son Peter and is survived by her children Steven (Laura) and Susanne (Fred), grandchildren Kristin (Rosana), Derek (Kirsty) and Guin, great-grandchildren Aiden, Sienna, Leyton and Elora.
There will be a celebration of life from 1:00pm – 3:00pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Steckly-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and are greatly appreciated by the family.
