Obituary of Carol Bailey
It is with deep sadness that the family of Carol Bailey announces her passing, with loved ones by her side.
Carol was born on October 11, 1938 in Windsor, Ontario and on October 23, 2024 in Ottawa, Ontario she “shuffled off this mortal coil” at the age of 86 years. Daughter of Alma and Leo Fisher (deceased), cherished wife of Tony Bailey (widowed, New Liskeard), and later married to Nick Stevens (widowed, Huntsville), dear sister to Richard (Dick Fisher, deceased) and Elizabeth Fisher, treasured mother to Melissa (Jason), Matthew (Kim), Andrew (Polly), Philip (Melanie), aunt to nieces and nephews Shannon, Susan, Terry, Martha, Matthew, Shona, Megan, Lucas, Taryn, Josh, and Ben. Admired grandmother to Evan (Kiara), Danika (Eric), Jake (Hailey), Kirk, Kianna, Kaidyn, Mia and Nolan, Sam and Lilly.
Growing up with her mother Alma, father Leo, brother Dick, and sister Betty, Carol always fondly remembered living in her childhood home on Wyandotte Street and then her grandmother’s house on Victoria Avenue. Her love for the piano started when she was five years old and began lessons. Carol spoke of the pleasure she had, working at her father’s business: Fisher’s Flowers. She graduated from U of Windsor, trained at business school, and after several jobs, Carol returned to Windsor and got her Master’s Degree in English, where she met and married Tony Bailey, in the university chapel. They moved to New Liskeard, Ontario and taught at the local highschool until they moved to Huntsville, Ontario and Carol spent her time raising her two young children Melissa and Matthew. An available farm property enticed Carol and Tony to move their family to Northern Ontario, where they sowed new lives and continued to grow their family with the births of Andrew and Philip.
Carol was a valued teacher at English Catholic Central School in New Liskeard for many years, until retiring from teaching in 1997. She developed life-lasting friendships with her treasured friends, during this time. She loved having dinner parties with the Ramsays, DeBernardis, Ewanchuks and many others. Her enjoyment was affected by Tony’s sudden death, but she found the courage to continue running the farmstead for several years, while actively volunteering at town council and playing piano at the Belle Vallee church. She later remarried Nick Stevens (Grandpa Nick), and spent years nurturing and blending their new lives together back in Huntsville, travelling and spending winters in Arizona. This brought new additions to the family and Carol gained new sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Anne), David (Bonnie), and Ruth-Anne.
Carol loved flowers, music, art, books, travel, theatre, and family get-togethers. She loved all of the people in her life and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Regardless of where Carol lived, her priority was family, fine wine, great food, and good times.
There is a profound void, now that Carol is gone, but we will carry her memory with us and continue to bear witness to the extraordinary person who was Carol Bailey.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
