Ted Zelmer – July 17, 1969 – June 28, 2024
Ted Zelmer passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 28th following a two-year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Zelaina, his brothers Ron (Vivian), Doug (Ann) and Allen (Diane), his nephews Zack (Ashley), Nathan and David, nieces Kellie (Ben) and Debbie (Ryan), great nephew Liam and great niece Emily, mother-in-law Esther, brothers-in-law Jonathan and William (Betsy) and his Border Collie Zoe.
He was pre-deceased by his mother Marianne, his father Emil, his father-in-law Harold and his dog Xan.
Ted was born in Manitoba, then moved to Yarmouth as a child. He divided his time between Nova Scotia and Manitoba until moving back to Nova Scotia in 1994 and marrying Zelaina a few years later.
He worked at Register.com (later known as Web.com) for many years, serving in his latter years there as Director for Reporting and Analytics. He was a valued member of the team and made many wonderful friends.
Ted loved animals, playing computer games (especially World of Warcraft), road trips in his truck, dining, good tv shows, being by the lake and early morning coffee with Allen.
He was loved by his family and his many friends who cannot all be mentioned by name, but would like to especially mention Lawrence Maberly and Chris Ross (among others) who each spent many hours on the phone and in person during his illness. Ted organized fun family get togethers in his last months so he could be surrounded by loved ones and he had wisdom to impart to each one.
All who knew Ted knew he was quick to help anyone who needed it, but more private with his own problems and concerns. This is why many people may only be learning of his illness with these words.
Ted fought his illness bravely and was able to take road trips Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, many shorter ones and received many visitors.
He was well treated by his family practitioner Dr. Hussain, Drs. Chris and Karma Murphy, Pam and the caring nurses of the oncology unit and the palliative care team of Dr.
Cooper, Cassandra and Katie who offered such compassionate support right up to the last day. We also give thanks to VON and Continuing Care for the visits and care provided.
All who knew Ted will remember his sense of humour, quick wit, way with words and kindness. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many.
Anyone wishing to remember Ted with a gift can donate to the oncology and palliative care departments at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the SPCA or the Baie Ste Marie Animal Society.
A celebration of life for Ted will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 1-4 P.M. in Jacob’s Loft Event Center. Please note this is a drop-in event and you may arrive anytime between 1-4 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
