Helen Leota Rafuse, passed away suddenly on November 5, 2024 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born March 4, 1943 in South Ohio she was a daughter to the late Lee and Letha (Hubbard) Crosby. Helen worked hard for her family. She worked both outside and inside the home. She took great pride in raising her 5 wonderful children. She loved to sew, crochet and craft. Helen made beautiful homemade quilts. She would knit baby cloths to donate to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital’s nursery. Helen enjoyed to play darts and was on many dart leagues. She loved animals and had many special pets over the years. Helen was a very good cook who loved to bake. She especially liked to share her baking with her family, friends and her neighbors. She was a sociable person who loved to laugh and made friends with everyone she met.
She is survived by her partner of 35 years George (Buddy) Wallace. She is also survived by her children, David (Kelly) Caldwell, Kentville; Leota (Milton) Cottreau, Wedgeport; Robert Caldwell, Alberta; Clyde (Shelley) Caldwell, Yarmouth; Bernice Caldwell, Ontario; stepchildren James (Heather) Wallace and Marjorie Wallace; brother, Leroy (Robin) Crosby, B.C.; sister, Muriel (Mike) Ferguson, Sandford; countless grand children and great grandchildren; one great-great grand child Jakob. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, John Caldwell; second husband, Clarence Rafuse; brothers Irving, Jimmy and Freddie; sister Sylvia Finley; granddaughter Leota Ruth Saunders; step son Curtis Prime.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sweeney’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Keeping with Helen’s wishes there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at Jacob’s Loft located above Sweeney’s Funeral Home on Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 2-4 pm. Burial will take place in St. Croix at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
