Gertrude’s Obituary
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Mom on April 8, 2024 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Quinan, Nova Scotia on November 27, 1947; she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Ada Doucette. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenny, whom we lost less than two years ago.
Gertrude leaves behind her children, Andrew (April) of Overton, NS; Justin of Hebron, NS; stepdaughter Deborah Perry (Mark) of Fredericton, New Brunswick and her precious grandchildren Zander and Kennedy. Not to forget her loving pets Benji and Bijou.
Gert was a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church. She taught Sunday school for a decade and volunteered at Vila St. Joseph-Du-Lac for 10 years. She worked for the NS Department of Motor Vehicles as a Driving Enhancement Officer for 30 years prior to her retirement. She loved to garden and was a wonderful cook. People loved her rappie pie. She always made sure her husband’s caregivers along with the pharmacy staff were gifted her famous fudge on regular occasions. Her generosity reached beyond those that surrounded her. She sponsored needy children overseas and contributed to various Ministries.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital 4-North for their mother’s infinite care during her final days. Special thanks to Pearl, Anita & Garnet, and Alexandra & Steve for their love and support.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth.
