Eric “Ric”‘s Obituary
ERIC “RIC” ROBERT DEVEAU – Age 71, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on March 20, 2024.
Born in July of 1952 to Eric Charles Deveau and Betty Deveau (Spates). Ric was the brother of Susan, Linda and Charmane. Ric was predeceased by his father in St. John, NB; his former wife and mother of his sons, Christine Gray and his sister, Linda. Besides his sons, he was survived by his mother, Betty Deveau, his sisters, Susan and Charmane, several nieces and nephews.
He spent the majority of his time in the Yarmouth County area but had also spent time in Toronto in his youth and Vancouver later in life.
Ric loved having a yarn with friends or telling stories, sometimes long, over a cup of tea. He had a kind generous streak and would sometimes stop and give money to someone down on their luck or go out of his way to help a friend in need. He very much believed in sharing and helping out others when you can.
He had a lifelong interest in music, specifically in playing guitar. He had played with many people in the local music scene over the years, playing in some bands in his youth and with friends throughout his life. Ric had spent many years in both the fields of carpentry and forestry at various times and had a great appreciation for being out in nature. He loved to go for walks in the woods and had told his eldest son that he found his most peace being surrounded by the forest. Ric walked to the beat of his own drum, living life his way, as he saw fit, always being a fiercely independent person. He has touched many people over the years and will be greatly missed and loved by many.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Eissa and the nurses at the hospital, the V.O.N., Family First Medical Services, and especially Craig Benjamin and the home care providers for their exemplary care and the ability for our father to live at his home which would not have been possible without their support.
A celebration of his life will take place at the South Ohio Community Center on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Interment to take place in Hectanooga Cemetery for family only. Donations in Eric’s memory can be made to VON Tri-County Branch.
