Alan Burton Fitzgerald
April 14, 1957 – November 2, 2023
Alan – age 66, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, with his loved ones by his side. After a courageous battle with a terrible disease called cancer. He was born in Yarmouth, and the eldest child to the late John “Burton” and Anne “Ida” (Doucette) Fitzgerald.
Alan had a few jobs over the years, blood worm harvester, truck driver and a painter for DL Painting. This was Alan’s true calling. He enjoyed work as a painter and working daily with Dave and Kenneth. Alan hated for winter to come, but when warmer weather started he couldn’t wait. It was time for road trips, as he called them, especially on Sundays from early morning, until late at night. Alan always had his camera, and took thousands of pictures. “My memories”, he would say, and never understood why people didn’t take more pictures. He really enjoyed cooking, and he loved to eat too! He couldn’t wait for Lake Doucette Motor Speedway to start their races. At one time used to race, then he became a very proud spectator, with his own reserved seat in which he was very proud to have. He was very mischievous and quite a prankster. He enjoyed life, and lived it to the fullest. Unfortunately, there were a lot of things he was wishing to do, but his cancer took over those dreams.
Alan is survived by his partner, Louise Hatfield; brother, Daryl, and his wife Karen; nephew, Adam; daughter, Chrystal; and grandchildren, Shayleigh, Kairi, Cayson and Cambree.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Donna; Brother, Glen; maternal grandparents, Simon and Gladys (Clairmont) Doucette; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Cedulie (Harris) Fitzgerald; along with numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund or the TCRCE Breakfast Program. A visitation will take place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, in Yarmouth on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023 at 1:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
A very special thank-you to the oncology department at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Alan thought the world of you all and spoke so highly of you. The VON, all his doctors and the staff on the 4th floor palliative care. A special thank-you to Dr. Leahey and Dr. Maynard.
