The family of Glendon (Glen) Eugene Crouse, 88, Bridgewater,
sadly announce his passing on May 7, 2024 at home.
Glendon was born in Bridgewater on June 8, 1935 to Leda and
Curtis Crouse. He grew up on the family farm in Waterloo, and always
had lots of farm stories for his children. He especially liked the
story of how he and his brother and sisters would walk a few miles to
a one room schoolhouse (up hill both ways), shortening can for a lunch
box, sometimes being lucky enough to catch a ride on a horse and wagon
travelling that way. The school is now the Waterloo Community
Hall.
He worked for 23 years at Lahave Creamery, making ice-cream
and other treats, and later took on the Valley cream pick up runs. In
1974 he started working at Michelin, retiring due to health reasons 17
years later.
In 1953 he met the love of his life Patricia Ann, and
together they raised four children and were blessed with eight
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Four more great
grandchildren would come along later.
They were avid campers, and travelled throughout Nova Scotia
and New Brunswick with their little Boler, attending many bluegrass
festivals. He was especially proud of the Rhonda Vincent autograph on
his favourite guitar. They took bus trips to Nashville, Memphis,
Graceland, Dollywood, Opryland Theme Park, Stacey’s Country Jamboree,
Niagara Falls and more.
In 2020 he lost his dear Patricia and moved from the family
home in Wileville to an apartment in Bridgewater. He loved his
apartment and made great friends there, along with his friends at Tim
Horton’s in the mall.
He was a great guitar player, and had been a member of
Kentucky Blue, volunteering at nursing homes and charity events. Dad
attended many community jams, often staying up on the stage to play
for many of the singers.
Dad was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Patricia,
sisters Betty and Norma. He is survived by daughters Lynn (Eric),
Jana, sons Brent (Laura) and Kevin (Bridget); grandchildren Jonathan,
Chelsea, Michael, Kimber, Mathew, Emily, Jake, Lucas; great
grandchildren Izabella, Zoey Jean, Violet, Rylan, Charlotte, Oliver
and Levi, and another one on the way, who will carry his name. He is
also survived by brother Moyle.
Dad made a difference in this world and will be missed by his
family and many friends. He built a few houses in his lifetime but
said he still had a house in his mind to build. We hope he is
somewhere beautiful, building that house for mom.
We would like to thank the paramedics, firefighters, and
police members for their efforts, respect and compassion. Also thanks
to Dr O’Neill, Dr Weagle and Dr Moldovan for the excellent care over
the years.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of
Life at a later time.
Donations may be made to charity of choice.
