Obituary of Brenton Donald Cameron
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brenton Donald Cameron, 84, of Hamilton Rd, NS, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born in Sunnybrae to the late Simon and Lillian Cameron on February 13, 1940.
Brent joined the Royal Canadian Navy at a young age and served on several ships. Following his time with the Navy, he was employed with Nova Scotia Power. He had a love for music and enjoyed going to music and live shows with his wife. In later years, he learned to play the guitar and ukulele. He, along with his wife, was a member of the Pictou County Ukulele Band that played for seniors at the local nursing homes.
He was well-read, reading books on various topics of interest. This led him to be a great conversationalist, as he could hold a conversation with anyone as he knew a little bit about everything. He was a humorous storyteller, sometimes adding a hint of exaggeration to his stories. These stories often had both him and others in tears of laughter.
Brent loved a good meal, with many memories created around the table. He enjoyed cooking big family dinners, sometimes for no reason other than having everyone together. Turkey dinners with all the fixings, honey garlic ribs, and biscuits “twenty minutes out” were a few of his specialities. Most notably, no celebration was complete without “Grampy’s Carrot Cake.”
Brent is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly (Lacey) Cameron of Hamilton Rd; children David (Louise) Cameron, Burnstown, ON; Deanne (Paul) Pentz, Hamilton Rd, NS; Donnie (Tanya) Cameron, Beaver Bank, NS; grandchildren Andrea (Leighton) Hayden, Trenton, NS; Brenton Cameron (Brynne Paschinski), Brandon, MB; Andrew Cameron (Nicole Strickland), Trenton, ON; Emma Cameron, Beaver Bank, NS; brothers and sisters Vic Cameron, Barbara Pollard, Bobby Cameron, and Irene (Jim) MacGregor. Sister-in-law Dorothy Cameron; brother-in-law Harold (Emily) Lacey; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Doug and Howard; sisters-in-law Bonnie Cameron, Marlin Cameron and Cheryl Lynds; brother-in-law, Melvin Pollard; nephews Robbie Cameron and Brad Lacey.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service at Brent’s request. Instead, interment will take place in Sunnybrae Cemetery on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 11am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Plymouth Fire Hall at 12:30pm. Please drop by with a story and to reminisce with the family over light refreshments.
Donations in Brent’s memory may be made to the Pictou County Food Bank or a charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the first responders, and staff of the Aberdeen Hospital for their care and compassion.
