JACQUARD, Nathan Louis – age 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, December 15th, 2023 in The Meadows Home For Special Care. Born in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Existe and Olive (Bourque) Jacquard.
Nathan worked on the water his entire life. At 16 years old he lied about his age to be able to get onto the merchant ships that were travelling to India. He served on 5 Coast Guard ships, retiring on the Provo Wallis. During his time working with the Coast Guard, he once saved a man’s life by boarding a small skiff and crossing the Arctic Circle. Nathan loved stock car racing, and had been going to the races when the track was where the Mariner’s Center is now. He never missed a race at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway. Nathan was known to tease people every now and again, all in good fun. In his quiet times he enjoyed putting puzzles together.
Nathan is survived by his children, Debbie (Brian) Burke, Yarmouth; Cathy (Gordie) Gavel, Hebron; Mike (Alfreda LeBlanc) Jacquard, Brooklyn; Dave (Kim) Jacquard, Saulnierville; Robert Bobby Boudreau, Ontario; Grandchildren, Chuck Hubbard, Nathan Burke, Tyler Burke, Ryland Jacquard, Kara Jacquard; Great Grandchildren, Rachel and Mac Hubbard.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Alma Jacquard; and siblings, James Jacquard, Edmund Jacquard, Loretta Smith, and Marie Crosby.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Yarmouth, followed by a burial in Mountain Cemetery, Rev. Bill Newell officiating. A reception will follow the burial, in Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Donations in memory of Nathan my be made to The Meadows Home For Special Care, or a charity of choice. Family flowers only.
