Gloria’s Obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gloria Surette in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 24,2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Gloria fought hard to stay at home with her beloved family by her side.
Born on December 17, 1964 she was a daughter of Barbara and Louis Pothier of Surette’s Island. She is survived by her loving husband Gordon, and son Travis, Morris Island; step daughter, Leanne (Greg) Frotten, Wedgeport; mother, Barbara Pothier, Surettes Island; siblings, Mitchell Pothier (Vikki), Yarmouth; Cindy (Edgar) Leblanc, Melbourne; half-sister, Joanne Hatting Pothier Gauling (Bo), Denmark.
Gloria loved her family unconditionally and although she had no grandchildren, she loved her nieces and nephews as her own. Her great nieces and nephews were a great source of joy to her as she watched them grow.
Gloria worked as an LPN early in her career but decided to be a “stay at home” mom to her beloved son Travis, who brought her so much joy. She was very proud of his accomplishments.
Gloria valued the simple things in life. She loved to read, go “Frenchie”ing with the knack of finding the best name brands. She was an amazing cook and homemaker, made the best carrot cake on the island. She did an amazing job as her mom’s caregiver after the passing of her dad Louis, until she fell ill herself.
Thank you to everyone who visited, brought food and words of comfort. Special thanks to the VON, Homecare and Palliative care who without their support we would never have been able to grant Gloria’s wish to pass at home with her loved ones.
Gloria, you are forever loved and never will be forgotten. We are and will be better people for having known you.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be announced at a later date. To leave messages of condolence for the family, please visit www.huskilson.net
