Joan Smith
Joan Elaine Smith – Age 81, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, with her family by her side in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Joan is survived by her children, Cyril (Charlotte), Cindy (Jesse) and David (Shannon); grandchildren, Mitchell (Caitlin), Jordan (Justice), Nicholas (Madison), Campbell and Christopher; her sister, Gae (Al Crossman); sister-in-law, Joan Weatherby; brother-in-law, Eric Newell (Thelma) and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, John Simpson and Emma Jarvis (Bartlett); her husband, John “Bud” Smith to whom she was married for 53 years; brothers-in-law, Robert Newell, Roy Newell, Allan Newell and Gordon Weatherby and sister-in-law, Opal Newell.
Joan was a stay-at-home Mom and a farm wife for 53 years on their farm in Nuttby. She loved to travel to England with her sister, Gae, she loved her chocolate and she loved to talk – which she did to the very end.
The family would like to thank all of the staff of Vimy Court for taking such good care of Mom for the past two years. We will miss seeing the staff and residents that we have come to know over the years. Thank you to the doctors and nurses in the CEHHC Palliative Care Unit for your care and compassion while Mom was in your care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CEHHC Palliative Care Unit or the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
Cremation has taken place. As per the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS.
