Janet Louise Snow – 76, Salmon
River. Sadly, we
announce that Janet Louise Snow passed
away after a series of heart
attacks, on Wednesday, June 5,
2024, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
Truro. She is
sorrowfully missed by loving family Ken, Jamie, Margaret and
Ashley. Born in Montreal, she was a daughter
of the late James and Isobel
(Thornton) Forbes. She is
survived by her husband of 48 years,
Ken; son, Jamie,
Burlington,
Ontario; sister, Margaret, Toronto,
Ontario;
daughter-in-law,
Ashley, Burlington,
Ontario.

Janet was raised in Longueuil, Quebec and
enjoyed a happy family life
with her sister, Margaret. Janet was a long-time
member of the Girl Guides of
Canada where she
developed her love for the
outdoors. She
and her family were active members in the Anglican
Church in
Longueuil where they all
sang in the choir. Janet
had fond memories of singing Christmas
carols as a soprano along with
Louise, her mother;
Margaret sang alto, and father
sang bass. Summers
were often spent in the Rideau lakes area where Janet learned to swim
and eventually, she obtained the
bronze medallion for
swimming and lifesaving
leading to many part time jobs as a lifeguard. She
taught Jamie how
to swim and was helpful in giving her husband a few swimming
pointers as
well. For many
years Ken, Janet and
Jamie and our
dog and two
cats travelled to
the cottage in the Laurentians where swimming, relaxing, campfires and the
odd sip of wine were the order of the
day.

Janet graduated from high school and
secretarial school. She
worked for
London Life Insurance Company for 12
years. Janet and Ken met through the
Scouting and Guiding movements in
the late 60s
but
didn’t marry until December 26,
1976. They lived
together in
Fredericton New Brunswick, while Ken
attended UNB. Janet
worked in the administrative offices at
UNB and Ken
attended classes. She obtained a PHT diploma
(Putting Hubby Through).
Janet and Ken moved to
Truro in
December 1977 and have lived here
since.

Janet always loved to sing
and dance and participated
in several musicals in the
Montreal and Truro
areas. Janet
became a loving mother and homemaker in Truro, supporting Jamie and
Ken as they all journeyed through
life. One of
Janet’s fondest memories was the wedding of Jamie and
Ashley in Burlington,
Ontario in
2017. She was very
active at St. Andrews United
Church in
Truro, where she was
a member of the choir, taught Sunday school and was
active with the
United Church Women Group.. Janet was a
community volunteer for many years.
She volunteered
as a leader with the Girl Guides
of Canada.
She received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden
Jubilee Commemorative Medal for her work with the
Colchester County Block
Parent program. Janet also
volunteered with The Colchester
Hospital Auxiliary coffee
shop. She was
a long-time member of the
Beta Sigma Phi
sorority group. She participated in their daffodil
campaign for
10 years,
raising funds for
cancer. Janet liked
to travel and enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean with family and
friends. She also
worked as a part time court reporter in
Truro. Janet was
very proud of her son Jamie and his accomplishment in his flying
career. We will miss Janet but will always remember
her gentle and loving
nature and her ability to bounce back from
adversity with a smile.
Janet lived a life helping others, and
hers was a life well
lived.

The family
would like to thank the staff in the
dialysis department of the Truro hospital for the loving care they
provided to Janet
during the
last nine
years.

A service to celebrate and remember Janet will
be held 2 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2024, at St. Andrew’s
United Church, 55 King Street, Truro, Reverend Shannon MacLean
officiating. Reception will follow. If so
desired, donations in
Janet’s memory to St. Andrew’s United
Church, the
Colchester Hospital Auxiliary, or
a charity of choice are
welcomed.
