Obituary for
Gregory Glasgow
Gregory “Greg” Keith Glasgow – It is with tears and sadness, we announce the passing of our husband and Papa in Colchester East Hants Health Centre surrounded by family. Greg was born in Sydney, NS on February 28, 1952, to J. Francis Glasgow (Frank) and Dorothy Catherine (Arac) Glasgow.
Growing up, Greg spent many happy times with his siblings at his great aunt and uncle’s farm in North Sydney. From Sydney, the family moved to Antigonish. At age fourteen, Greg and family spent two years in Lesotho, South Africa, where Greg loved to play tennis and ride his horse. When the family returned to Antigonish, many of his summers were spent singing and traveling Nova Scotia with the Chyldren of Thyme.
In 1969, while attending StFX University, he met Colleen for the first time. In 1973, Colleen and Greg started dating, and in 1975 they got married and moved to Alberta.
Greg began his electrical studies at SAIT in Calgary in 1977. He went on to become a Red Seal Electrician. He worked for Wilkinson Electric for most of his time in Calgary.
In 1988, Greg, Colleen and now two children, moved back to Nova Scotia to be with family. He worked many places and for various employers such as Germaine Electric, Kent Homes, etc. and was foreman on the restoration work on the Eirik Raude drilling rig. He was well known for his meticulous work and several inspectors were known to comment, “I know who wired this panel”.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 48 years, Colleen; children, Neala Braedley (Kenneth) and James Glasgow (Stefanie); grandchildren, Tate-Marie, Joseph and Nicolas Braedley and Harrison, Maddox and Iver Glasgow; siblings, Ian (Carol), Moira Legere-Sers (Robert), Laurie Flindall (Stephen), Michael (Debbie) and Theresa. He leaves a void for many nieces, nephews and friends. Greg was predeceased by both parents and brothers, Hugh Reginald (at birth) and Daniel.
Greg was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a devoted member of this church choir. He was a Knight of Columbus having also served as Grand Knight. He was a faithful member of the Nova Tones, the Legion Men’s Choir and the Vocal Chords of New Glasgow-Stellarton.
Greg had a strange sense of humor and was known for his LKFs (little known facts). He loved to travel and watch his oldest three grandchildren in their curling bonspiels and fly to BC to read stories and enjoy his youngest three grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to The Knights of Columbus scholarship fund, VON, St. Vincent de Paul or CEHHC Palliative Care Unit.
Special thanks to VON, especially Marie Lewis and Thomas, Dr. Henderson, Dr. Code, Dr. Kukula and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be January 25th, 2024, from 4-6pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 26th, 2024 at 12:15pm in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall.
