Obituary
Charman, Mina Pearl (nee Murray), Wallace, passed away peacefully at East Cumberland Lodge on January 6, 2024. Sadly we bid farewell to our beloved Pearl in her 102nd year. How blessed we were to have had this gracious woman in our lives so long. Pearl was born at Tatamagouche Mountain on September 20, 1922, to Clain and Ada (Langille) Murray. She and Clifford were her Mother’s second set of twins. She grew up on the farm there with three brothers and four sisters. Pearl excelled in school and won all the prizes. The only student in grade 11, Pearl taught herself, and the teacher reviewed her lessons at the end of the day. When finished grade eleven in 1939, Pearl taught for over seven years before working as an office clerk at Stanfield‘s in Truro. Pearl moved to Wallace in the early 1950’s, marrying Millard Charman in 1962, where they owned and operated the first Home Hardware Store in the Maritimes. During her many years in Wallace, Pearl worked tirelessly supporting church and community. In their 50 years of marriage, Pearl and Millard shared their love of Florida, golfing daily, and travelling the world. Pearl had a passion for quilting (even in her 101st year) there had to be 100 or more which she shared with family and friends. Even in her 101st year, Pearl was an unbeatable Bridge Player. She was an inspiration for aging, and lived in her own home with self-sufficiency for over 100 years. At noon on September 20, 2022, the bells of St. John’s United Church in Wallace tolled 100 times, commemorating the woman who had given so much in so many ways for the betterment of her community. Pearl lived her final months at East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash where she celebrated her 101st Birthday. She is survived by her brother John (Doris) and many nieces and nephews. Pearl’s family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to East Cumberland Lodge staff and care givers for their thorough, vigilant and loving care of Pearl. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash, www.mmcfunerals.com A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. John’s United Church in Wallace on Friday 12 January at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wallace Cemetery or East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash would be greatly appreciated.
