Kathleen Cecelia (Pettipas) Coleman- age 79, Valley, N.S., passed away December 9, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Glasgow and raised in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Florence (Currie) Pettipas.
Kathleen was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA), taking her training at the Kentville Sanitorium, completing her exams with the highest mark in the province. It was when working in Kentville that she met her husband, John. She then went on to work for a time at the BFM Hospital in Kentville. After a move to Green Hill, Pictou Co., she continued her work in health care as a CNA at Valley View Villa in Riverton. Her family then moved to Truro in 1986, where she eventually took a job working in the Glebe House at Immaculate Conception Church.
Her main focus in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kathleen enjoyed music, especially Dolly Parton as well as singing – being a valued member of the Immaculate Conception Church Choir for many years right up until her death. She enjoyed quilting and was known for her fabulous baking.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, John Coleman; children, Scott (Doreen), Andy (Amy), Lisa (Donnie), Matthew (Chelsie); grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Tanner, Emma, Mitchell, Ethan and Bowen; great grandchildren Victor and Khai; brothers, Bill and Wilfred both of London, Ont.; sister, Greta, Ottawa, Ont.; many nieces and nephews; Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Angie, Doris, Raymond, Mary and Sherry; brother, Freddy in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 14 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro with Father Ronald Cairns officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Interment will be held in the springtime in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Immaculate Conception Parish.
The family wish to thank the Palliative Care Team, the staff of Colchester East Hants Health Centre as well as to the VON who cared for Kathleen with much love and care. A special thank you to Ron and Anne Marie Fougere for their music, friendship and prayers as well as to Kelsey for going above and beyond for the family during their time of need.
