William Arthur “Bill” Walker
October 4, 1937 – December 14, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Walker on Saturday, December 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia disease.
Dad was known for his incredible sense of humor and his love of storytelling and jokes. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, whose easygoing nature and ability to see the best in people touched everyone he met. Even in his final days, his humour shone through, brightening the hospital staff and palliative care staff who cared for him. He will be deeply missed.
Dad owned and operated Auto Body Refinishers Ltd., a large body shop in Sydney’s North End, for over 30 years, from the early 1960s to the 1980s. After closing that chapter, he founded Breton Insurance Appraisals Ltd., which he successfully ran until his retirement in 2007.
Bill is survived by his wife, Phyllis Walker; daughter, Barbara Poswiata (Michael); and two sons, Shane Walker (Pauline) and Brian Walker (Darlene). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Justin Poswiata, Lindsay Whynot, Nicholas Walker, Avery Walker, David Walker, Laura Walker, Kevin Walker and Kyle Walker and a cherished great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, Hayden Whynot, Shylo Whynot and Coralee Walker. Bill is also survived by his sister, Irene Wright (Gordon) of Lunenburg and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Elsie Walker of Sydney Mines; brothers, Frank (Marion) Walker and Donald (Lil) Walker; and sisters, Ellen (Ernie) Clark and Vera (John) Young.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 21st at 2 pm followed by a reception. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly request that donations be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Dad’s memory.
