Harriet (Walton) Hann
Sydney Forks/Coxheath
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Harriet (Walton) Hann on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, with family by her side.
Born September 5, 1930, in Donkin, Harriet was a daughter of the late Richard and Mildred Walton.
Harriet spent 62 years alongside her beloved husband, Earl before his passing in 2014. They owned and operated the Meadows Service Station, Snack Bar and Restaurant and then the Meadows Motel, Sydney Forks, before opening CB Cake Decorators in Sydney River, which they ran for many years before retiring.
Mom was well-known for her delicious rolls, cookies, pies and plum pudding. Family and friends were very fortunate to always be the taste-testers for a new recipe. Mom had a love of nature. She enjoyed gardening and always had the most beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs. Mom had a green thumb for indoor and outdoor plants, pampering that most delicate shoot and would be so excited to see the plant grow with beautiful blooms. She also loved feeding the birds and could not wait to see the hummingbirds return to her feeders each year.
For many years, Harriet was a member of St. Marks Anglican Church Altar Guild and enjoyed working at the tea and sales, preparing lunches and catering at the church hall.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her family; son, Allan (Michelle); daughters, Carolyn (Todd) MacLeod and Alison (Andrew) MacNeil; grandchildren, Christine (Albert) Phalen, Cory and Kyle Hann and Ayanna and Camden MacNeil. Mom was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Mark and Grant Phalen and Lexie and Levi Hann, who were so fortunate to grow up with Nanny GG’s hugs and love. Also surviving her are sisters, Edith MacIntosh and Frema (Lloyd) Graham; and sisters-in-law, Doreen Walton, Phyllis Hann and Irene Rudderham.
Besides her parents, Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Earl; brothers, Hubert, Richard and William; sisters, Martha Kennedy, Edna White and Florence MacDonald; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and grandson, Tyler MacNeil.
We, the family, are so very grateful to the staff of Spanish Bay at the Cove Guest Home for taking care of mom over the last three years. We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Robert Cohen (ret’d) and Sandra Toner, NP of the Heart Function Clinic for taking such good care of mom over many years. It was because of your care and compassion that we have been so fortunate to have her in our lives for so long.
If you wish, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
In honoring mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends can gather for a visitation at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 4th from 11 am – 1 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 pm with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Interment will take place in St. Marks Anglican Cemetery at a later date.
