It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Jean (Dalton) Norman, of Barrachois, Cape Breton, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 73.
Born April 6, 1951, in Sydney, Gloria was the daughter of the late Maurice Keough and Edith Hawco.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her compassion, community spirit, and dedication to her family. Gloria was deeply involved in her community, offering her time and energy to various causes and earning the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her outstanding volunteer service. She worked for many years at Shoppers Drug Mart until her retirement. A passionate sports enthusiast, Gloria was an avid golfer, bowler, a softball and basketball player, and one of the first female basketball referees in Nova Scotia. However, her greatest joy came from supporting her family and grandchildren, becoming their #1 fan and rarely missing any of their sporting events.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Paul; daughters, Edith Marie Dalton-Henry (Junior) and Jennifer Collins (Craig); son, Blaise Dalton (Tara); and her cherished grandchildren, Connor Henry and Hudson Dalton. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Samson (Reg) and Catherina Pendergast (John); brothers, Ken Keough (Janet), Fred Keough (Cheryl), and Rick Keough; as well as her sister-in-law, Cathy Keough. Gloria’s extended family includes Natalie Aucoin (Rick), Chadwick Norman (Candace), and Heidi McLaughlin (Troy) and her grandchildren, Gavin and Brody Aucoin, Isen and Logan Norman, and Torin and Hayley McLaughlin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews with whom she shared a special bond.
Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Dalton; parents, Maurice (Moe) Keough, Edith and Wilfred Hawco; brothers, Andrew and Danny Keough; sisters-in-law, Theresa MacKenzie and Donna Keough; nephew, Stephen Keough; in-laws, Marie and Gerald Dalton; and brother-in-law, Stuart Dalton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
