It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Charles Lamont Garland on Thursday, June 27, 2024, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck on April 3 1944, he was a son of the late Joseph and Alice (MacMillan) Garland.
Family was everything to Charles. He loved his family and thought the world of them all. He was a hard worker all his life, and worked for many years in the Pulpwood Industry with Williams & Simpsons Pulp Co., Roy Garland Trucking and Baddeck Valley Wood Producers.
He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck.
Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma (Montgomery); daughters, Jeanette Cory, Baddeck and Kimberley (Stephen) Garland, Halifax and children, Richard and Kathleen; son, Graham (April), Baddeck, children, Richelle and Ashley, and grandchildren, Paisley, Gus, Brian, Dallas and Dempsey; daughter-in-law, Wendy Garland, Baddeck, children, Kaitlin, Allysa and Tyler (Mikayle) and their daughter, Willa Jean; sister-in-law, Anna (Hugh) McCrory, Barbara Tower and Donna (Harold) Frizzell; brother-in-law, John (Gail) Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his son, Kevin; sister, Edith (Bill) Morrison; brothers, Donald (Elma) and Kenny (Elda); and brother-in-law, Don Tower.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Big Baddeck on Friday, July 5th at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. Genge and all the staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck and also Dr. Paul Morrison and all the doctors and nursing staff of the Emergency Unit, ICU Unit and 4D Unit for their excellent care of Charles. The family would also like to thank all the homecare workers who came to our home. Each and every one of you was just great. We were so grateful to have you all.
