Jeanne Lorraine (Oliver) Gosse – April 17, 1951 – February 5, 2024
Jeanne Gosse was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her health issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life’s challenges and appreciating all the little moments in life. Jeanne was born in St. John’s to Frank and Dorothy Oliver. She was predeceased by her parents, infant sister Maureen, brother David and sister-in-law Ruby, and beloved sister Bernice. Left to mourn are her brother Brian Oliver (Patricia), brother-in-law Charlie Lewis, and a large extended family. Jeanne met her husband and love of her life, Ian, as teenagers at the YMCA in St. John’s. Together, they raised two daughters, Janice (James McGrath) and Susan, who Jeanne loved immensely (and only slightly less) than her cherished grandchildren, Abigail (Kieran), Ian, Charlotte, Katherine, Grace, and Alice. Jeanne doted on her grandchildren with the best stories, songs, and snacks. She was always their biggest cheerleader at their recitals, sports, and in life! Jeanne was a loyal and thoughtful family member and friend. She would be the first one to send a card in the mail to show support, and she genuinely cared about helping others. Jeanne worked as an LPN in the areas of rehab and palliative care where she was able to give comfort to others in their moment of need. She also worked in childcare and developed special relationships with children and their families. Later in life, she became a volunteer at the food bank where she met many friends and enjoyed helping her community. Jeanne loved to travel and enjoyed many special trips with her family and friends. A highlight was cruising in Europe where she appreciated the beauty of the world around her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 9th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Elmsdale location of Ettinger’s Funeral Home, 860 Highway 2, Elmsdale. A Celebration of Jeanne’s Life will occur 11:00 am Saturday, February 10th at the funeral home. A livestream of the service will begin at 10:55am and can be viewed by clicking on “View Service Here” on the website, next to her obituary or directly at this link: event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=5e683b68-ed6d-4de4-968e-d0f9b7d76d50 Pre-registering for the livestream is highly recommended.
