MacDONALD, The Reverend Angus Roy “Gus”, age 80, of West Gore, passed away peacefully June 17, 2024 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Glace Bay, he was the only child of Angus and Florence (MacPherson) MacDonald.
Gus graduated Acadia University, Wolfville, with a Bachelor of Science in 1966. He then went on to the Nova Scotia Technical College in Halifax and completed his Bachelor of Engineering. Gus always said he would quit his engineering job at the age of 40. He was true to his word and left his engineering job in Ontario and moved his wife Bonnie and children, Allison and Ted, home to Nova Scotia. He then owned a number of small independent consulting businesses. Gus always had an interest in Theology and felt a calling to serve God. He went on to study at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax and obtained his Bachelor of Theology. Gus continued his theology studies at McGill University in Montreal and graduated with a Masters in Divinity.
In the mid 90’s Gus took over the Ministry at the Church of Christ in West Gore, Nova Scotia. Gus immersed himself in the church and the community with all his heart and soul. Gus lived and thrived in the community. In 2002 Gus met Judy Miller through the church.They were married in 2005. Gus always referred to Judy as the love of his life. Gus lost Judy in 2014 due to illness. He “retired” from his ministry in 2017 with his Parkinson’s diagnosis. However, he was still mentoring, supporting, guiding, and helping with the affairs of the church as well as his community and remained active and independent until February of 2024.
He will be sadly missed by his family, his wife, The Reverend Heather Ann Card; son, Ted (Ruth); daughter, Allison, stepdaughter, Sheri (Noel); stepson, Mark (Lori); grandchildren, Morgan, Abby, Hunter, and Emma; great granddaughter Kami; wife Heather’s children, Lana, Alicia, Ken, David and Kathleen and their families.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Judy; stepfather Neilie MacPherson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place, a funeral service will be held at 11AM Friday, June 21, 2024 at Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Rev. Mike Poworoznyk officiating. A reception will held in the funeral home hospitality area immediately following the service. The interment will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hants Community Hospital for the care given to Gus during his stay.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Brookside Cemetery Fund or to Church of Christ Disciples, West Gore.
