Katherine Eileen
Sceles
Kay passed away at home in her
own bedroom where she wanted to be on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 9
p.m. Kay was born on December 26, 1953 to Murray and Alice Smith of
Canso. Life was not easy for Kay as a young girl. Her father passed
away at a young age and the family moved to James River to live with
her grandmother, Hazel. In her mid teens, Kay began babysitting in
Manchester and Boylston where we met in 1970. We were married on July
15, 1972 and started a life together. Kay worked at the Canso fish
plant, cooked at the barn restaurant and worked at the family business
in Boylston and being a homemaker at the same time. She loved flower
gardens, country music, reading, Elvis and Conway Twitty and yard
sales. Kay is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ricky; sons, Kenny
(Laura), Nicholas (Tracy); grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Nolan,
Olivia and Mallory; four brothers and four sisters. Kay was
predeceased by her parents; her mother and father-in-law; brother,
Pat; and brother-in-law, Earl Sceles Jr. Kay had a hard struggle with
health issues over the last few years and more so this past year. She
fought so hard to live. In life we sometimes mentioned Heaven and
Hell. I know Kay’s ashes will be at home and I believe she
went through Hell on Earth, so her soul must be in Heaven singing
country karaoke with her friend, Donna Hart on Saturday nights. In
keeping with Kay’s wishes, there will be no visitation or
funeral service. Arrangements are under the dignified and
compassionate care of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316,
Country Harbour
She is Gone.
You can shed tears that she is
gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes
and pray that she will come back or you can open your eyes and see all
she’s left. Your heart can be empty because you
can’t see her or you can be full of the love you shared. You
can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy
because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that’s
she’s gone or cherish her memory and let it live on. You can
cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do
what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go
on.
