It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Catherine Ann MacIsaac announce our Matriarch’s sudden passing at age 91 years young on February 23rd, 2024 at St, Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish. Born in her beloved Glendale, on April 25th, 1932, she was the youngest daughter of Alexander and Katie Sara (MacDonald) MacInnis and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
As a young lady, Mom worked as a housekeeper in Creignish for the MacIsaac Family and met the love of her life, John A. MacIsaac. They were married June 6th,1957 in West Bay Road, and moved around with Dad’s work as a CNR Section Man. They settled in Creignish in 1969, and made a home there for 20 years, before moving to Port Hawkesbury in 1989.
Mom was a woman of great faith and devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Port Hawkesbury, and a former member of Stella Maris Parish, Creignish. She faithfully prayed the rosary twice a day. Along with books and prayer cards, Mom prayed everyday for her family, friends, for those in need – did not matter, living or dead.
Mom enjoyed a good joke and occasional prank. She took pride in baking and cooking meals for her family and friends; her raisin bread and shortbread cookies were a must at Christmas. Mom was a true Scot, which showed when she would meet with someone who spoke Gaelic; you would listen not knowing what they were saying but knowing that it was something funny. She enjoyed concerts, Scottish music, and old country songs, especially Charlie Pride.
Mom leaves to mourn her only child and best friend, Anne (MacIsaac) MacRae,; Granddaughter, Tanya (Ryan) Conrad; Grandson Steven John, both of whom she was so proud; soon to be Great-Granddaughter, Lily Rose Conrad, Godchildren, AnnMarie MacDonald and Daniel MacRae;
She was predeceased by brother, Dan Hughie MacInnis (sister-in-law, Mary Ann MacInnis); sisters, Christina MacDonald (brother-in-law, Alexander MacDonald) and Mary MacMillian (brother-in-law, Hughie MacMillian); nieces, Jessie Ann MacDonald, Shirley Ann MacInnis; nephews, Hughie MacInnis and Hughie MacDonald, all whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to extend big thanks to the EMTs, the staff of Strait Richmond and St. Martha’s Hospital – their gentle care was exceptional. Also, to Gopal Man Shrestha and his staff for their kindness to Mom.
Visitation will be held on Monday March 4th, 2024 at Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
