Verna’s Obituary
Walker, Verna Belle – 87, Debert. Mom, Mernie, Gram, surrounded by the people who knew her by those names, passed away unexpectedly on October 31st, 2023 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Masstown, she was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Jennings) Walker. Verna wore many hats: telephone operator, service station manager, fisherwoman; but most important of all, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. We, her family, were so fortunate to be connected with her. Her impact on us, her kindness, stoicism, resilience, and a joy for life, will be what we hold on to. She loved her music, which has been passed down through the generations. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Al) Pittman; son, Bruce Carroll, and his former partner, Bev Organ; sisters, Patsy (Ted), Debbie, Cheryl, Phyllis (Danny); grandchildren, Chad (Norma), Brennan (Sarah), Devin (Stephanie), Kyle (Laura), Becky (Damien), Mitchell (Anna), Brandyn; great-grandchildren, Alana Mae, Myla, Jett, Bella; brother-in-law, Gerry (Mary); sister-in-law, Pat (Roger); special nieces and nephews; beloved family in PEI and Newfoundland. She was predeceased by her daughter, Cindy Worthington; brothers, Leonard and Billy; sister, Georgina; father of her children, David Carroll. We would like to thank the exceptional health care team, Jeannine and her partner, Dr. Amirault, Heidi, Liv, Claire, Kaitlyn, Dr. Julie, Cara, etc., for showing her love and respect and treating her like the “Queen Bee” that she was. Special thank you to Bev and Ardith for their loving care for Mom. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 6 in Masstown Cemetery. A celebration will follow from 4-7 p.m. at The Peg, Masstown. Donations made to Masstown Cemetery or local food bank would be appreciated.
