Obituary
Garry Tizzard, aged 73, passed away peacefully in hospital on Monday, December 18th, 2023. Born in La Scie, Newfoundland on March 16th, 1950, he was the son of the late Rowena (Watkins) and Rev. Aubrey Tizzard. Growing up, his family resided in various communities in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. His grandparents’ home in Indian Cove, NL was always one of his favourite places to visit throughout his life. At the age of 18 he began dating Janet (Bragg) Tizzard; they married in 1972 and celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 2023. Garry attended Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, NB and went on to work for Lands and Forests as a forestry technician in Oxford and Gander, NL. Later on, he worked at Doug Bragg Enterprises until retirement. He enjoyed hunting, working in the woods, and later in life, spending time with his grandchildren. He was an amazing guitar player and had a unique talent of creating the most beautiful boats in bottles. He more recently was part of the Artisan Gallery where he spent time socializing and selling his boats in bottles. He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Tom (Vanessa) Tizzard, Oxford Junction; Jason Tizzard, Halifax; daughter, Julia (Ron) Lavers, Oxford Junction; grandchildren, Abby and Raymond Tizzard; Elliot Lavers; brothers, Malcolm (Coreen) Tizzard, Kolbec; Michael (Mary) Tizzard, Alviston, ON; brother-in-law, Darryl (Tammy) Bragg, Springhill; mother-in-law, Doreen Bragg; sister-in-law, Debby Tizzard, Amherst; sister-in-law, Wanda Lavers, Oxford Junction; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Elizabeth and brother-in-law, John Walsh; brother, Roger Tizzard; special aunt, Dorothy Watkins; special niece, Meghan Bragg; father-in-law, Doug Bragg; and brothers-in-law, Ross, Paul and Carl Bragg. He was also predeceased by his favourite singer, songwriter and guitarist, Gordon Lightfoot. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 29, with funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, both at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium. Donations may be made to the Collingwood United Church or a charity of your choice.
