Obituary
Charlotte Mae (Dickie) Conrad
September 6th, 1951- February 24th, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and devoted friend, Charlotte, at Northwood Nursing Home in Halifax on February 24th, 2024, after a courageous journey with dementia. Left to mourn Charlotte are her two daughters, Tricia Conrad and Tara Munden (Desi); and grandchildren, Kaley and Jaxon, all in Halifax; siblings, Arlene Shorey (James), Reginald Dickie, David Dickie (Kandace), all in Amherst, Madelene Rafuse, Ontario; special son-in-law, Brandon Swartz; sister-in-law, Teresa Simpson; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Sadie Dickie; and brothers Douglas Dickie and Donald Dickie. Charlotte was raised in Oxford and lived in Amherst throughout her adult life. As a young woman, she worked at Northern Telecom, before advancing her education to become a Medical Office Assistant with the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, where she worked until retirement. In her mid-life, Charlotte began a spiritual journey which led her to become baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, a faith that supported her throughout the remainder of her life, particularly during her illness. Charlotte was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren and took great pride and joy in watching their sports and spending quality time with them whenever possible. She was also an avid hockey fan, a music lover, and, throughout her life, exhibited a strong connection to her pets, especially dogs. At the center of Charlotte’s life was her family and friends, especially her daughters and grandchildren. She was blessed with a small community in the last year of her life at Northwood Nursing Home, to which we are so grateful, especially her dear friend Robert and staff members Dan, Adam, and Sunmoon, whose care and concern exceeded our expectations and provided Charlotte with such comfort and support. She will best be remembered for the kindness and compassion that she extended to others. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. Celebration of life will be held at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at 2 pm.
