Obituary
Bernard “Bernie” Lyle Tuttle was born July 29th, 1957 in Longueil, QC to Melbourne and Doreen Tuttle. He was the 1st of 6 children to be born in the family. From an early age Bernie showed a keen interest in hauling gravel and his self proclaimed, “father’s little helper”. Bernie attended South Middleboro School as a child and excelled at math and spelling. He also made lifelong friends during these years. After High School Bernie followed his passion for hauling gravel while simultaneously collaborating with his brother Ian, taking over their father’s farm, making Tuttle Brother’s Farm a reality. During this time Bernie started hauling for Paycin Dobson in Westchester, where he met Julie. They married and had Matthew and Melanie before separating years later. Bernie then went to drive for Stan Flynn before going solo and buying his first truck. Thus began the beginning of Bernie Tuttle Trucking. He was proud of his truck, adding the pup trailer soon after. He would upgrade his truck every 4 years with excitement and anticipation.
In 2003, his world changed for the greater. Bernie decided to first buy a dozer and try his hand at excavating. He hired Kelly Chown to drive his truck, but little did he know that Kelly would fill a void in his heart and become the son he so desperately needed after losing his son Matthew in December 1998. Over the years Bernie and Kelly completed beautiful landscaping and shoreline job, also having put in many of the fire roads across the region. Together they excavated for 16 years before Bernie retired the company to Kelly. After retiring Bernie was a little lost, unsure what to do with his time. He spent most of visiting and caring for his beloved mother, visiting with familiar friends and family. Bernie spoke often with his daughter Melanie, reminiscing about the days and catching up on the busyness of his grandsons Jayden, Andy and Boston. Bernie had a huge heart that cared deeply for others. He loved to share stories and hear about the day’s events of others. He was a simple man that didn’t require a lot to be happy. He liked his solitude and visiting his friends over the years, like The Boudreaus, Benny Williams, Jimmy and Ronnie Wells, Danny Ferguson, Gary and Terry Keiver, Phillip Fisher, Kenny and Winnie Coulter, Jerry and Carol Coulter, The Paces, Merlin and Jacquelin Russell, Marius Rasmussenthe Blade Family, Leon Smit, Allan Rhindress, and his life long best friends Jack Moore and Jerry Langille.
Bernie will be deeply missed by his mother, daughter and grandsons as he was unexpectedly reunited with his father and son on May 9th, 2024 while enduring a brief stay at the Lilian Frasier Memorial Hospital .
Bernie is survived by his Mother Doreen, daughter Melanie (Dylan) of Morinville, AB, along with 3 grandson Jayden (Abbey), Andy, and Boston. His chosen son Kelly (Mary Jo) of Middleboro. His siblings Percy (Shelley), Ian (Ruth), Brenda, Karen (Martin), and Nancy (Stephen). Many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by grandparents Bain and Nina, father Melbourne, son Matthew. His aunt and uncle Byron and Grace Tuttle along with his cousin Patricia Tuttle-Briggs.
A heartfelt thankyou is extended to Dr. Coxx and the nursing staff at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital.
