It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister Alexandra Anne (Sandra, Sash, Sandy) Morrison, on Wednesday December 6, 2023 in Montreal. Born in North Sydney, December 16, 1942, Sandra was the daughter of the late Anna Mae (MacDougall) and John Alexander Morrison of North Sydney. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Edward Morrison.
Sandra is survived by her brothers Ian (Julia), B.C. and Andrew, California, sisters Sheila and Therese, North Sydney, Elizabeth (Dave), Sydney Mines, Catherine (Abdul), Sydney. Sandra loved her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, Charlynn (Shawn), Jeff (Bonnie), Sarah (Johnnie), Chris (Nadja), Tashianna, Noah, Alex, Katie, Hayden, Evan, Caleb, Bayliegh, and Isla.
Sandra graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1964 with a BA and BED degree. She spent most of her career as an educator in and around Montreal. Sandra was a life-long lover of Classical music and the arts, she embraced much of what the cities of Montreal and Toronto had to offer and was a patron of Place des Arts in Montreal. She lived very close to McGill University and continued her own education there, especially in her retirement. Sandra loved to travel, with Greece being her favorite destination. She returned home to North Sydney twice a year and took her role as the eldest of the family seriously, never forgetting a birthday, even up to her last days. Being somewhat of a “Foodie” Sandra dabbled in catering on a small scale in Montreal. She made the Christmas Eve party at home a special event, preparing creative hors d’oeuvres and her famous eggnog for all to enjoy. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Georges Nursing Home of Montreal where she spent her last two years. We send a special thank-you to our cousin Leone (MacAdam) and her husband Rod Charters who have been so kind and generous and a tremendous help to Sandra and the family during the last years.
A funeral mass for Sandra will be held 2:00 pm Monday August 19, 2024 at St. Joseph Church in North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson disease foundation or to the charity of your choice.
