Joseph Gerald LeBlanc
July 30, 1929 – December 21, 2024
Better known as “Gerald à Willie” – Age 95, of Meteghan, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Meteghan, he was a son of the late Willie and Marie (Comeau) LeBlanc.
Gerald is now reunited with his wife, Antoinette. A family man; he was always interested in hearing what his seven children, sixteen grand children and thirteen great grand-children were up to. He was so proud of each and every one. He took great pleasure in a house full of family and friends.
Gerald had a passion for the sea, a fisherman throughout his life, providing for his large family. Up to his last days, he enjoyed telling stories of his adventures while fishing different species. In his retirement, you could find him taking his daily ride to the Fourneau and to the wharf or sitting by the kitchen window, next to the wood stove (it was never cold in the kitchen), binoculars in hand, watching the boats coming and going. He was the oldest fishermen from the Meteghan wharf. During his last summer, at the age of 95, he chopped and proudly packed his firewood in precise rows; he was still driving and enjoying his favorite candies and sweets. Gerald was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus.
Gerald leaves behind two brothers, Wilfred (his cribbage partner), and Nil. His children; Elaine, Roger, Paul Emile, Lionel, Allan, Sylvia and Earl. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Antoinette (Boudreau), brother Robert and sisters Lucille and Annette.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to Clare Feral Friends; he was fond of the wharf cats, or a charity of your choice.
