Mary Alice Newell
87, of Halifax, formerly of Hubbards, passed away on October 31, 2023 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax, surrounded by family. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter the late James Patrick and Helen Elizabeth (Power) Gates.
She worked for Canadian Pacific Rail in the office before moving to Hubbards and raising her family. She enjoyed spending time with her best friend Freddy and her trips to the cottage in Wine Harbour.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Lalita), Toronto, ON; Michael (Janice), Hammonds Plains; daughter, Joanne, Halifax; granddaughters, Emily and Michelle; grandsons, Devon, James, Ryan and John; great granddaughter, Violet; sister, Jacklyn (Gates) Haley, Sackville; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Joeph Norman and son, James.
The family will receive visitors 4-6 pm Wednesday, November 8 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggys Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Funeral Service will be held 12:15 pm in St. Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association.
