Gordon W. Rhodenizer
1943-2024
It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of
Gordon Wallace Rhodenizer of Mahone Bay, at the age of 81 on September
6, 2024 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He passed
peacefully with family by his side.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 10, 1943, Gordon was the
son of the late Randolph Amos and Lena Viola (Moser) Rhodenizer.
Gordon was predeceased by his half-brother, Robert (Mary, deceased)
and his sister, Susan.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Wilma (Morrison); brother, Clifford
(Jeannie); sister, Pauline (Richard, deceased); brother, Donald
(Cathy); daughter, Annette (Alex); son, Graham; grandsons, Stephen and
Daniel; great-grandchildren, Tianna and Jack; nieces and nephews.
Gordon had many close friends and caring neighbours.
He took pride in his work and had a great work ethic. He began working
at age 16 in the grocery store business. He met his best friend, Ross
Jones, soon thereafter and they became instant friends. A large part
of his early career was with Halifax Wholesalers, Avon Foods and
Chipman Brothers. He continued his career as a salesman at various car
dealerships in Bridgewater. His most recent work was for Bluenose RV
where he worked for many years until retiring.
Gordie was a fan of baseball, hockey and football, faithfully
following his beloved Yankees, Blue Jays, Leafs and Packers. He loved
coaching and watching young people in baseball.
Gordie was an avid trout fisherman. He had a wealth of stories of many
fishing adventures with his lifetime friends. These stories were told
and retold, maybe even embellished a little, around many a bonfire,
year after year.
Gordie enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He spent a fair
amount of time, after retirement, meeting up with friends at the
Government Wharf as well visiting with his good friend and neighbour,
Reid Joudrey.
Gordie had many interests. He had great interest and knowledge of
music. He collected stamps in his earlier years. He spent a great deal
of time playing catch with his children and grandchildren. He was
devoted to his wife and they shared many special times together. He
will be greatly missed by many.
A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Park Cemetery,
Mahone Bay at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 followed by a
