It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Mary Ann Campbell, 67, of Pine Grove, announce her passing at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with her family by her side.
Born in Harbour Breton, NL, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Loretta (Martin) Grandy. From Newfoundland, the family moved to Lunenburg, where ultimately, she met and married her life-long love, Ian. They faced many ups and downs together, including a life-threatening illness early in the marriage, but throughout it all, they stayed steadfastly by one another’s side. They welcomed three children, and raised them with love and laughter.
Through two of those children, Mom was gifted her new and true identity: Mimmy; the name her grandchildren lovingly called her. A title she wore with pride, and a role she filled joyfully. No day was bad enough that it couldn’t be brightened by a visit from one of her grandkids, including her last one.
Nothing mattered more to Mom than family. And she would do anything for her family. She’d cook meals to feed an army, she’d always be the first person to go to the aid of a loved one, and no birthday would pass by without her famous birthday cake. She put her family first, and we felt every bit of that love.
Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Ian, Pine Grove; daughters, Kelly (Amrinder Singh), Halifax, Holly (Derrick Wood) Riley, Pleasantville; son Adam (Samantha Holdershaw) Campbell, Pine Grove; beloved grandchildren, Campbell, Lennon, Oliver, River, Ruthie, and Sullivan; brothers Joe (Denise) Grandy, Shelburne, Jim (Nancy) Grandy, Lower Branch; sister-in-law Pam Grandy, Hemford; and many treasured nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by her family by choice, Chase (Krystle, Solveigh, Ragnar, Sunniva, Ingmar), Shawna (Sadie, Benjamin), Kandace (Nick, Henrik), Gordon, Carol and Robert.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Kevin Grandy.
Mom encountered many health care professionals over the last year and a half, and along with her, we are all so grateful for the incredible care she received from everyone. A particular thanks to Dr. Drucker and his team, Dr. Samson, Dr. Pugh, Dr. Chaisson. SSRH Emergency, Medical floor, Med-Surg floor, SSRH oncology unit, her entire oncology team. Thank you to VON and to the Palliative Care team, and to the CCA’s who were so caring and spent extra time with her. Also to the many wonderful nurses who cared for her along the way, a special thanks to Sarah and Margaret who were so kind to Mom, but also to all of us, as we were preparing to say goodbye.
Momma, a version of something you’ve read to us countless times, we’ll love you forever, we’ll like you for always, as long as we’re living, our Momma you’ll be.
