It is with profound sadness that the family of JoAnne Marie Greek, 81, of Blue Rocks, announce her passing on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Stonehurst, she was the daughter of the late G. Collins and Florence (Selig) Tanner.
JoAnne started her working career in the banking business, working with the Bank of Montreal in Lunenburg, Riverport and Mahone Bay. She went on to work at the Save Easy in Lunenburg, the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and then joined the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home in 1988 where she was Office Manager until her retirement in 2002.
JoAnne was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church in Blue Rocks, where she was a dedicated choir member, memorial treasurer, Clerk of Session, Sunday School Teacher and supported the work of the church in any way she could. Her church community reciprocated that support to her with unwavering faithfulness. JoAnne was steadfast in her faith which provided her with a source of strength and determination that was truly amazing.
Many will remember JoAnne for her selflessness. Even when she had little herself, she was well known to give money, her time, clothes, a meal, baked goods, prayers, whatever was needed to whomever needed it. There was always room at her table.
Her dream was realized when she was able to build “Camp Nanna Jo” in her beloved Stonehurst. A gathering place for family and friends rooted in the history of her past and the beauty of the seaside. Whenever there was turmoil in the world or in our lives, she would always say, “It will be ok if we are in Stonehurst.” JoAnne loved and was proud of her family and found great pleasure in every chance to enjoy a moment together.
JoAnne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Collins; daughter, Angela (Andrew) Lohnes, Mahone Bay; son, Jody (Susan) Greek, Bayport; grandchildren, Nathan, Maddie, Max and Jack.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy 3, Lunenburg and from where visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul’s United Church, Blue Rocks. Rev. Heather Ferrier officiating. Private family interment to follow in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery, Upper Blue Rocks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church, Blue Rocks, Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery or charity of your choice.
