Brian Leigh Hatt, 75, of Bridgewater and formerly of Lunenburg, passed away suddenly January 24th at home, with his best friend and wife, Lisa, by his side.
Brian was born December 31st, 1948 in Lunenburg, NS. He was the son of the late Cora (Demone) and Leigh Hatt. Brian was an only child, although he did not take it easy on his parents growing up. If there was trouble to be had, Brian was there. He spent his younger days driving fancy cars, and getting into lots of trouble around town with his friends.
Brian spent most of his working career scalloping, until the sinking of the vessel the Kay Angela, in which he was the captain of. Brian was able to get all crew off safely. From there, Brian went back to school
To get his ON2, but couldn’t bring himself to go back to sea right away, so he took a position with National Sea Products in Lunenburg where he worked for 18 years, before returning to his scalloping where he fished with Clearwater. He made many lifelong friendships along the way. There was nothing he loved more than being on the water. It was his happy place. In his later years, Brian retired from Clearwater due to a neck injury, but that did not stop him. He did not want to stay home and sit around. So, with that being said, he started a part time position as night watchman for the fisheries museum of the Atlantic. This was a job that brought him closer to his fishing history, and he loved it so very much.
In the past few years, Brian wasn’t able to continue working as his health issues did not allow him. He missed it and everyone he worked with dearly.
He fought the world with strength, determination and a little bit of stubbornness (Maybe A Lot). But we all loved him dearly,. Even more so as he battled many health issues the last number of years. He fought with every ounce of strength to be able to walk Brie down the aisle, and enjoyed every second he could with his precious Anna. We have lived many years making the most of everyday, not knowing if today was the day. We loved you dearly, yesterday today and for all tomorrow’s. Rest easy my love.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Cora and Leigh Hatt, his uncle Harold Demone, lifelong friend Graham Harnish, and many more friends he lost over the years. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Bennett) Hatt of Bridgewater, son Jeoff Hatt (Kara Muir) of Richmond, BC, and daughters Cindy (Hatt) of Clearland, and Brianne (Avery) Langille of Bridgewater. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jaden Hanhams, Emma Hanhams, Josie Fillmore-Hatt, JR and his sweet Anna, who was the light of his life.
Although Brian had not been well these past few years, we made the absolute most of it and spent every waking second together making memories. He loved spending his most recent days playing slots, having a drink, and spending time with the ones he loved most.
Nothing prepares you for the loss of someone so close and special to you, but we are at peace with knowing Dad is no longer suffering. We love you forever and always, Dad.
Special thanks to Dr. Catherine Kelly & Dr. Michael Samson of Pelham Medical in Lunenburg, for their kindness and compassion during Brian’s illness.
A service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. Interment will be in Shepherd’s Hill Cemetery, Riverport.
Family flowers only in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to family.
