It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear youngest son Mark on Dec.31, in Calgary.
Born in Liverpool on Jan.21, 1980, he was the son of Nelson and Elizabeth Boland.
Mark was a wonderful young man who could light up a room with his bright blue eyes, big broad smile and a joyous, quick witted personality. He was truly a caring, people person. Although a loving child he could often be a handful for his parents. With his flamboyant personality, he often had drama in his life.
Mark grew up in Mersey Point and played soccer and hockey. Mark enjoyed Kelly Clarkson and Justin Beiber music and automobiles. He attended Liverpool Regional High School and later, Shelburne Vocational School, specializing in Human Services. He worked at White Point Lodge and Queens Home for Supported Living and several hotels in Halifax and Calgary. Later years in Calgary he worked again in the Supported Living Industry at several Group Homes. He later went back to school and obtained an administrative course. He utilized this training to obtain his most recent job with Alberta Health.
Mark enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico. He liked cooking and having friends and family over for a nice home cooked meal and socializing with lots of laughter. He enjoyed long walks with Orly, Richard and Carmen. Mark maintained a close relationship in Calgary with the Pepler family, Richard, Bill, Judy, Allison and families. He also had many close friends in the Inglewood Community. They helped each other and socialized regularly.
Mark is survived by his partner Orly Simbulan, his parents Nelson and Liz Boland, his brother Adam Boland, sister in law Melissa and cherished niece Lila and nephew Ethan. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, his canine companion Carmen and his Supported Living room mate Richard Pepler.
Mark was predeceased by grandparents, Grover and Dorothy Boland and William and Doris Whynot.
Cremation has taken place at Country Hills Crematorium and Funeral Home in NE Calgary, Alberta. A celebration of life will take place Inglewood Community Centre on Jan.13th, 11am to 2 pm.
A celebration of life will take place at Chandlers Funeral Home at a later date in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. A following burial will be at the Baptist Church Cemetery on Church St. in Liverpool. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Queens County SPCA.
