Robin Campbell Lawrie
1944-2024
Robin Campbell Lawrie,
80, of Tupper Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21,
2024, after a long battle with lung disease, at the Valley Hospice, in
Kentville NS, with family by his side. Born in Toronto, ON he was the
son of the late David and Margaret (McKeig) Lawrie. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by his only sister, Dianne
Buffett.
Robin received his BA
degree from the University of Miami and then returned to Ontario to
pursue a career in Radio, TV and Film. But soon, the life path took a
turn, and the family moved to a chicken broiler farm in North Grand
Pre, NS. During those ten years on the farm, Robin actively worked
with the youth of the area through Boy Scouts of Canada. The family
built two cottages together at Aylesford Lake which were enjoyed by
all, and many special memories were made.
The road then took
another turn, and he moved with his family, to Annapolis Royal NS. The
family established Annapolis Home Hardware which he ran successfully
for 17 years. Then in 2000 he purchased and operated Hantsport Home
Hardware. Retirement came in 2004. A move to Tupper Lake NS, which
became home, came three years later. Everywhere he settled, he became
well known through his community involvement.
Robin is survived by
his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth “Beth”
(Wadsworth); and his three children: sons, Rob (Joanne), Round Hill,
Annapolis Co.; and Ian (Sarah Shipp), Nanaimo, BC; daughter, Heather
Lawrie (Tim Morse), West Brooklyn, Kings Co.; and his three
grandchildren, Byron, Gavin and Gabby; as well as several nieces,
nephews and extended family. Family always came first to Robin, and he
not only loved every one of them but was also extremely proud of them
all.
Robin was in his
50th year as a proud and dedicated member of
the Masonic fraternal organization, belonging to St. Georges Lodge
#20, Annapolis Lodge #33 and Poyntz Lodge #44. During those years he
served as Master several times. His masonic journey also included
concordant bodies of the York Rite, Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was
very proud to serve in many district and provincial offices of these
bodies, furthering the values of a Mason. In 2017 he achieved his OPC.
His Masonic Brothers were very dear to him.
The family would like
to express their sincere gratitude to all the care givers that helped
him in his time of need, especially Tara and the staff at Valley
Hospice.
Family and friends are
invited to attend a memorial service led by Poyntz Masonic Lodge, on
Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. For those unable to attend, a video webcast will be
available. There will be no visitation. A private family interment
will take place at a later date at Berwick Cemetery. Donations in
memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville. To view the video webcast and for
