Philip Kerr
1959-2024
We announce with great
sadness the death of Philip Kerr, who passed away peacefully on
Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the age of 65 in Kentville, Nova
Scotia.
Philip will be dearly
missed by his friends and family including his son, Patrick Kerr (and
wife Olivia Greenbank), his siblings (Paul Kerr, Loretta Laplume,
Margaret Kerr, Hellen Marie Eichel and Teresa Logan), Paule Kerr,
Laura Eggertson, Robaire Nadeau, Sherry Selvidge, Robin Crouch, his
nieces and nephews, his god children and many more.
Philip’s
parents likely did not know that they chose the perfect name for him
as the name “Philip” is comprised of two elements
“phil” and “ip”. The root word
“phil” comes from a Greek verb meaning to love and
“ip” is short for “intellectual
property”, the area of law that Philip practiced in. Philip,
from the moment he was named, was destined to love intellectual
property, and that he did. In his practice, he was ever curious and
zealous in advocating for his client’s
interests.
Aside from IP,
Philip’s interests included painting, sports such as
badminton, Westfalias and tennis (both of which he played with his
son), teaching (informally – usually related to IP or
painting) and cooking on the BBQ.
Special thanks go to
Sherry Selvidge, Dr. Wellwood and Dr. Toplack who helped Philip
navigate his fight with cancer.
Heartfelt thanks
extend from Philip’s family and friends to the staff at the
Valley Hospice who took such good care of him in his final days.
Instead of sending flowers, Philip’s family proposes that
people wanting to make a gesture can make donations in his memory to
the Valley Hospice in Kentville Nova Scotia valleyhospice.ca/.
Further to his wishes,
Philip will be cremated and will have a small celebration of life with
friends and family at one of his favourite local restaurants. Philip
indicated that he hoped that celebration of life attendees would wear
Crocs and shorts (as he was known to do); this was in the summer mind
you. Philip was also practical so, as we are in December, celebration
of life attendees will be able to wear shorts and/or Crocs at their
discretion; after all, it is the thought that counts.
