Francis “Frank” Campbell
1934-2024
On July 17th, after a life well lived, Frank passed away
peacefully, at home with his daughter and grandson at his
side.
Born on November 12, 1934, to Donald and Agnes Campbell,
Frank grew up on the Esplanade in Sydney, Cape Breton. Upon completing
junior college at Sydney Academy, Frank went on to receive a BSc. in
Mathematics and an Engineering certificate from St. Francis Xavier
University in 1955. After a brief period of uncertainty, he decided to
continue his journey in engineering and obtained his degree from UNB
in 1958. He was very proud to be an alumnus of both
schools.
In 1958, Frank began his distinguished career as a Civil
Engineer with CN Rail in Halifax. After working in New Glasgow and
Moncton, he held senior management positions in Montreal, Toronto and
Winnipeg. Frank retired as Vice President Prairie Region in Winnipeg.
Always a visionary, it was once said that to work with Frank was to be
where the action was.
It was in 1960 in Halifax that Frank met Myrna on a blind
date. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until Myrna’s
passing in 2023.
In 1997, Frank and Myrna retired to Wolfville where Frank was
a past member of Ken-Wo Golf Club, Kentville Gyros and the Wolfville
Curling Club.
Frank loved caring for his rose bushes, vacationing on Marco
Island, Florida with Myrna and Thursday morning breakfasts at the Big
Stop with his good friend, Maurice. He had a love of 1960’s
folk music, debate around the supper table and a good spy novel.
Unbeatable in cribbage, he taught his children and grandson to play.
He hoped for the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs every year, and he
loved a game of golf at Ken-Wo. But above all else, Frank loved his
family unconditionally and was completely devoted to
them.
Frank lived his life with strength, integrity, fairness and
compassion. This is how we will remember him.
Truly loved and respected, Frank is survived by his daughter,
Valerie (Bruce Murray), Wolfville; Brian (Lisa Shand), Calgary, AB;
and grandson, Brian Young, Wolfville. He is also survived by sisters,
Rita (Vernie) Totten, New Minas and Elizabeth McNeil, Kingston, ON and
brother, Malcolm (Irene) Campbell, Sydney, Cape Breton.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife,
Myrna.
In keeping with Frank’s wishes, cremation has taken
place, and a funeral service will be held at a later date. We would
like to thank Frank’s physician, Dr. Hazen Burton, for his
support of Frank’s wish to remain at home. Without him, we
would not have been able to honour his wish. Donations in memory may
be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville. Online condolences and inquiries may be
directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.

Do not mourn that he is gone,
be thankful that he was.
