Age 75, passed away in Halifax on February 3, 2024. Born in Tatamagouche Mary was a daughter of the late Johnny and Thelma Maddox and birth parents Harold and Eileen Gibson.
She is survived by daughter; Margaret (Brad) Blois Hardwood lands, grandson; Jacob Yeomans (Truro) Joe’s son Danny Samson, Ontario, grandson Francis, Ontario, sisters Carol Gibson, Marg (Phil) Cyr, Jean Gibson, Lillian (Jody) Chisholm; brothers, Bill (Florence) Maddox, John (Darlene) Maddox, Joe (Dianne) Gibson, Earl Gibson, Albert (Maura) Gibson, Gary (Barb) Gibson; special sister nieces, Patsy Langthorne and Dianne Hubley.
Besides her parents Mary was predeceased son Michael Deal; husband Joe Samson; sisters Gwen Smith, Audrey Watson, Barb Dolan, Eleanor Howe, Thelma Gibson.
How do you begin to take stock of the life of Mary Samson? Do you focus on Mary’s childhood? Where she grew up surrounded by loving parents, siblings and cousins. Where lifelong friendships were forged. Do you focus on Mary as a businesswoman and active member of the community? Where tournaments were landed, and politicians elected. Where people knew if they got into an accident. Mary was going to take care of it. Or, do you focus on Mary as she came into her own? Where she offered pearls of wisdom from her “Perch”. Where she went out of her way to make people feel welcome and safe. Of the many wonderful attributes Mary had. I believe one of her greatest strengths was her ability to understand. To understand what the person in front of her needed at that time. Whether it be a kind word, an inspirational quote, a reality check or a song. Mary had you covered. I think in time. We will all come to remember Mary in our own special way. But, like she said, “With a Smile on the Lips, and a Tear in the Eye” Please take a moment and raise a glass to Mary. Imagine the view from the perch now!
The family of Mary Samson would like to invite you to a celebration of her life at the Bedford Legion. March 9, 2024, 2-4 PM. From 2-3 Food, Family and Friends. There will be a tribute to Mary around 3.
