Obituary of Lena G. Callis
CALLIS, Lena Gwendolyn (McNutt) 90, Halifax, N.S. Lena passed away peacefully at Melville Lodge, Halifax on 11 December 2024. Born in Bible Hill, NS, on November 14th, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Wimburn “Wimby” and Kathleen (Strudwick) McNutt.
Lena was a dedicated member of St. James Anglican Church for many years.
Lena spent a number of years working in administration at various businesses including George Eddy Co. Ltd., Atlantic Bookkeeping, CIL Inc., and Dr. James Hammerling.
Lena loved to bowl and do crafts. She donated her handmade crafts to many different charity organizations.
The family would like to express our appreciation and thanks to all caregivers for their support, kindness, and care for Lena over the past few years.
She is survived by sisters, Janet Holland, Kay (David) Stewart, and Pat (Jim) Stewart; sister-in-law, Eleanor McNutt; many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie, in 1982; sisters, Lucy, Evelyn, Joyce, and Ella; brothers, Foster, Lloyd, and David.
Arrangements and Cremation have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. A service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Dr., Halifax, NS on April 5th, 2025, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
